Iekei Ramen, also known as Yokohama Iekei Ramen, is a style of Japanese Ramen that originated in Yokohama, a city south of Tokyo. This particular type of Ramen is characterised by its unique broth (creamy broth made from a blend of pork bone and soy sauce) and noodle preparation (typically thick and straight), as well as its toppings (slices of chashu, spinach or other leafy greens).
Since it’s Italy, I went there expecting that the noodles would be delicious. I had researched three Ramen restaurants in advance that I wanted to try, but Italian food was so delicious, I decided to only eat one Ramen and focus on Italian food for the rest of my trip instead.
About “RAMEN LAB AKIRA“
This Ramen restaurant is run by a Japanese man who owns three other restaurants in the city.
I showed up right after the opening time at 12:00, so there were no customers yet. While I was eating, customers came over.
Inside the restaurant, you can find various games and mangas, so you can enjoy the Japanese atmosphere.

How to order?
The ordering method is a typical Japanese style. First, we get a menu and take a seat. Once you have decided what to eat, go to the cashier counter, place your order and also pay upfront. Once you have placed your order, you will be given an electronic bell. When the Ramen is ready, it will let you know with a sound. When the sound goes off, you can go to the counter to pick your Ramen up. It was a self-service restaurant which is very common among Japanese food courts !

What about the Ramen?

I thought it would be just nice, but I was surprised by how delicious it was ! The flavour was strong, and it tasted just like a true Japanese Iekei Ramen. I was a little surprised that you could find this kind of Ramen quality in Italy. Moreover, the Ramen came with medium thick noodles of very high quality which were, of course, al dente.
Highly recommended for those who want to eat Japanese Ramen in Rome ! However, be careful as it may be a bit salty for Europeans.

I also ordered the spicy one, but it was quite hot ! Recommended for those who like spicy food !
